A new 52ft powercat is on the Horizon

July 13, 2015 / Brendon Grieve / Boating News, Buy or Selling, Motor yacht sales, Motor Yachts For Sale

Last week I accompanied a customer to Hillarys to inspect the new Horizon PC52 which recently arrived from Horizon’s Taiwan factory.

Pre sold, this is the second power cat purchased by a Bunbury couple who just love cruising the Kimberley. With experience behind them, they knew exactly how to fit out this magnificent craft which they designed specifically to handle months afloat in remote areas.

Dealer principal – Brad Arnup from Oceaneer Marine Brokers, spent over an hour explaining the special customising and attributes, both standard and optioned on the PC 52. It was inspiring to see someone so passionate about the product they represent. Brad had obviously lived and breathed every bit of this project from its inception 12 months ago.

In a world where Rottnest moorings sometimes determine the size of boats we purchase, the cat may be a future option. At only 52ft LOA, but with a massive 22ft beam, I estimate her living space would be at least 50% to 70% more than an equivalent length monohull.

It begs the question, do we go wider rather than longer just so we can enjoy our favourite local boating destination?

Being totally inexperienced in cats, I must say it took me a while to get my head around the layout. You basically need to throw away everything you are used to in monohulls, all of your pre conceived ideas, and be open minded, particularly when it comes to the accommodation areas.

As far as entertainment and living spaces are concerned, the cat is hard to beat. But I guess… every boat also has its compromises.
