While Covid-19 has been an absolute disaster for some businesses – cars, caravans, dirt bikes and luxury boats are experiencing quite the opposite. Winter is normally a time in my game when you rub your chin and think mmmm, maybe I should have taken a month off, however at Motoryachts Unlimited the last three months have equalled our highest number of boat sales recorded in the peak of summer.

If you have a boat to sell fantastic, for the first time in many years asking prices have become selling prices, in some cases two or more offers are being presented on the same boat. The demand is across all price and size categories. Everything from $60,000 sport cruisers to $2 million luxury passagemakers.

I predict our desire to buy boats in WA will continue to grow the longer the borders are closed and overseas travel is limited. Long range passagemakers like the Ocean Alexander, Sirena and Horizon brands will become more desirable for those boaties wanting to cruise the Kimberley. In the last month I have found WA enquiries for new Lagoon Catamarans has quadrupled! Those thinking of taking delivery of their new cats in Europe are adjusting their thinking and now it makes sense to take delivery in Australia. The Multihull Group are offering pre-Christmas delivery on selected Lagoon models, a rare opportunity to jump the queue.

Our waterways and boating hotspots like the Swan River, Rottnest and Garden Islands will be out of control this summer and I expect next winter  Shark Bay, Ningaloo and the Kimberley will become the new cruising grounds for WA boaties.
