There's a reason the Grand Banks 42 Classic has outlasted almost every trend in recreational boating. It was never chasing them. Built by American Marine with 1,554 hulls delivered before production closed in 2004, the GB 42 is the trawler that serious cruisers come back to -- a vessel that rewards patience, passage-making, and the kind of slow travel that actually lets you arrive somewhere.
Grand Spirit, hull number 1483, is the newest and best-presented example currently available on the Australian market.
Step aboard and you'll notice what isn't there: clutter, unnecessary gadgetry, the fingerprints of impulsive upgrades. What you'll find instead is a boat set up by someone who has spent a lifetime on the water and knows exactly what matters. Everything onboard has earned its place.
Life aboard is genuinely comfortable. The aft master stateroom features a walkaround queen berth with its own private head and separate shower to starboard. Forward, the guest cabin offers V-berths, ensuite head, and separate shower -- real privacy, not a compromise. The saloon is light and airy, with panoramic views, opening windows, teak parquet soles, and Corian countertops in the galley. Air conditioning is fitted in both the saloon and aft cabin for those warmer nights at anchor.
Under the hood, twin Cummins 6BTA 220HP engines with approximately 2,200 hours cruise reliably at 9-10 knots at 1,500 rpm, burning around 25 litres per hour. New stern tube bearings and PSS dripless seals were fitted to both shafts in 2023. A 2,270-litre fuel capacity gives genuine range -- this boat is ready to go.
The 8.5kW Onan genset (approx. 710 hours) keeps everything running comfortably at anchor or on passage. The AB Mares 10 VSX centre console tender with 20HP Honda outboard is included, launched and retrieved by the Prestomarine XL500 hydraulic lift mounted on the swim platform.
